Agrim Verma, smallcase manager, Co-Founder - Divitiae Investments on AMFI data
Despite prevailing negative sentiment around the Nifty 50, September’s mutual fund data highlights the resilience of India’s domestic investor base amid market corrections and global macroeconomic uncertainties. Equity-oriented mutual funds attracted net inflows of ₹38,307 crore during the month, with investor flows remaining remarkably strong in the small- and mid-cap segments. Small-cap funds attracted ₹9,039 crore, while mid-cap funds garnered ₹7,835 crore, his continued participation suggests that retail investors remain positive on India’s long-term growth opportunity, particularly across the mid- and small-cap segments.
Notably, monthly SIP contributions rose to a record ₹32,490 crore, reinforcing the trend of disciplined investing despite market volatility. Total Equity-oriented mutual fund inflows increased approximately 31% month-on-month, reflecting sustained investor participation even as market sentiment remained subdued.
The strength of flows across equity categories suggests that retail investors are continuing to invest through the correction rather than retreating from equities.Passive investing also remained strong, with equity ETFs attracting ₹9,960 crore, while gold ETFs received ₹4,451 crore, indicating continued interest in diversification.
Overall, the data suggests that negative market sentiment has not materially dented investor appetite for small- and mid-cap opportunities. Investors should remain disciplined, diversify across market capitalisations and align equity exposure with their investment horizon rather than chase recent flows.

RBI measures tighten liquidity, open window for bond accumulation
The RBI’s response is calibrated but firm. The announced ₹25,000 crore open market bond sale will absorb surplus liquidity, while the higher daily CRR maintenance requirement will tighten banks’ liquidity management. Separately, targeted foreign exchange measures are easing pressure on the rupee, which strengthened approximately 1% to around 95.76 in early trading.
These measures redirect dollar demand away from the spot market rather than eliminate it, so lasting currency stability will still depend on crude prices, capital flows and the broader dollar trend.
For fixed income investors, this adjustment is beginning to create opportunity. Indian government securities and high-quality corporate bonds now offer meaningfully better yields, supported by resilient domestic growth. With inflation risks elevated and further tightening possible, however, aggressively extending duration would be premature.
We favour gradual accumulation of high-quality bonds in the five-to-ten-year segment, adding duration as global yields and domestic inflation expectations stabilise. The key distinction is whether higher yields reflect weakening fundamentals or monetary repricing. India’s situation is predominantly the latter, which rewards disciplined long-term investors.

Debt funds see heavy outflows in September, equity inflows hit record
Debt mutual funds saw net outflows of ₹1,83,156 crore in September (August: ₹8,127 crore), driven by the usual quarter-end and advance taxes. Liquid funds (₹95,743 crore), money market funds (₹50,846 crore), ultra-short funds (₹11,729 crore), low-duration funds (₹6,632 crore) and overnight funds (₹7,281 crore) bore the brunt.
Duration categories such as corporate bond (₹4,652 crore) and banking & PSU debt (₹2,412 crore) continued to see outflows. Gilt funds saw inflows of ₹600 crore as higher G-sec yields drew allocations.
Lower markets did not dampen equity sentiment, with net inflows at a record ₹38,307 crore (August: ₹29,329 crore). Small-cap (₹9,039 crore), mid-cap (₹7,835 crore) and flexi-cap (₹6,702 crore) funds led, followed by large & mid-cap (₹4,271 crore) and multi-cap (₹3,860 crore). Large-cap funds returned to inflows of ₹859 crore, ending a two-month outflow streak. SIP inflows hit a record ₹32,490 crore.
Hybrid funds saw net outflows of ₹457 crore (August: inflows of ₹10,045 crore), as arbitrage funds swung to outflows of ₹3,956 crore on quarter-end redemptions. Multi-asset allocation funds (₹3,667 crore) and aggressive hybrid funds (₹1,864 crore) continued to attract inflows. In passives, equity ETFs drew ₹9,960 crore, while Gold ETFs (₹4,451 crore) and Silver ETFs (₹1,974 crore) rebounded. Industry AUM stood at ₹82.64 lakh crore, down from ₹87.08 lakh crore in August.

Equity inflows broad-based in September, small-cap hits record
Equity inflows this September were encouraging not just in size, but in breadth. Small-cap inflows hit a record high, mid-caps reached a multi-month high, and flexi-cap funds drew nearly ₹7,000 crore, which tells us investor conviction is spread across the market-cap spectrum rather than concentrated in one pocket.
Crossing the ₹30,000 crore mark for only the second time this financial year reinforces that momentum. We also see investors reallocating with intent. Hybrid funds saw outflows as money moved towards pure equity, and Specialised Investment Funds continued to gain traction with inflows of around ₹7,000 crore.
In the ETF space, gold inflows rose to about ₹4,500 crore, among the highest in recent times, which reflects a steady, allocation-led approach to commodities amid global uncertainty. Overall, investors continue to back India’s long-term growth story with discipline and confidence.

Rupee rebounds nearly 1% as RBI steps in to sell dollars to oil firms
The rupee has opened Monday with a rebound of around 1% to near 95.80 against the dollar, from Friday’s close of 96.71, after the RBI stepped directly into the market. From today it will sell dollars to Indian Oil, HPCL and BPCL to cover their entire daily requirement until further notice, taking a major source of dollar demand out of the spot market.
The central bank has also tightened its rules on rupee derivatives, following last week’s 25-basis-point repo rate hike to 5.50%, the first increase in nearly four years. The pressure it is pushing back against is broad. Foreign portfolio investors have pulled about ₹44,000 crore out of equities so far this month, taking this year’s outflows past ₹3 lakh crore.
Brent still hovers above $100 a barrel, and US Treasury yields above 5.2% keep the dollar firm. The catch is the cost: dollar sales to oil companies will draw down reserves, which already slipped by nearly $13 billion in the week to October 2.
On the charts, the pair has support at 94.90 and 94.10, with resistance at 97. The next tests are India’s September retail inflation print, expected to show a pickup to around 5.4%, and US CPI on Wednesday. A hotter reading on either would revive the case for tighter policy and could push the pair back toward 97, while softer data and cooler crude would give the rupee room to test the 94.90 support.

Commodity outlook by Darsha Desai, CEO, Aspect Bullion & Refinery
“Gold prices witnessed fluctuations over the past week, falling to near two-month lows before recovering on bargain buying and softer US yields. While the rebound has brought some stability, prices remain sensitive to the dollar, interest-rate expectations and geopolitical developments. Indian buyers remain price-conscious, with demand likely to improve gradually as the festive season progresses. For the week ahead, gold may remain range-bound with a mildly positive bias, supported by domestic demand and rupee weakness, while US inflation data, Federal Reserve signals and geopolitical developments will continue to drive price movements.”

Market view by Avinash Shekhar, Co-founder and CEO, Pi42
“Bitcoin is trading around $83,800, showing signs of recovery after last week’s decline. However, the rebound remains cautious as a stronger US dollar, elevated bond yields and uncertainty around the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook continue to influence market sentiment. Bitcoin’s ability to hold above $83,000 will be important in the near term, while a sustained move towards $86,500 could indicate renewed buying momentum. Investors will also be closely watching upcoming US inflation data for greater clarity on the direction of monetary policy.
Ethereum is trading near $2,550, while XRP is hovering around $1.40 after facing selling pressure over the past week. XRP’s recovery from the $1.30 level indicates buying interest at lower prices, although a decisive move above $1.45 will be needed to strengthen its upward momentum. The broader crypto market is likely to remain sensitive to macroeconomic developments, with sustained buying volumes and stability in Bitcoin’s price playing an important role in determining the next phase of market movement.”

The quality of the close improved alongside prices. Avalanche ended at 87% of its daily range, Chainlink at 82%, Ethereum at 77% and Bitcoin at 71%. Eight of these top ten finished in the upper half of their ranges, indicating that buyers retained much of the day’s advance.
Institutional demand remains the main counterweight. US spot Bitcoin funds took in $21.1 million on 9 October, but Ether funds lost $56.1 million. Across the five completed US sessions dated 5 to 9 October, combined Bitcoin and Ether fund outflows reached $1.221 billion.
The global backdrop is still demanding. Treasury yields reached 24-year highs during the week ending 9 October.
Bitcoin support is near $82,716 and $82,500, with resistance around $84,111 and $84,500. Holding above $82,500 and clearing $84,500 with continued altcoin participation would strengthen the recovery. A break below $82,500 would weaken it. US inflation data on 14 October is the next scheduled macro catalyst.

Bitcoin is trading near $83,500, supported by news of an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. The rebound follows more than $2.4 billion in liquidations, while US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $681 million in outflows, ending a three-week inflow streak. However, underlying demand remains strong, with whales reportedly accumulating around 15,000 BTC in 72 hours and corporate holdings increasing by 193,000 BTC this year. Notably, leverage is also significantly lower than before last year’s October 10 crash, when $19 billion was liquidated, potentially reducing systemic risk. For now, support sits at $80,500, with resistance at $85,000 said Prateek Gupta, Head of Business, Mudrex.

Bitcoin is trading around $83.8K on October 12, recovering from last week’s dip towards $80K but remaining below the $87K resistance area. The recovery comes against a backdrop of a U.S. dollar near an 18-month high, elevated Treasury yields and renewed Middle East tensions. Attention now turns to Wednesday’s U.S. inflation data, with investors watching the implications for the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook. Near-term technical levels in focus include support around $82K–$83K and resistance around $85K–$85.5K, followed by $86.5K–$87K. Dollar strength, bond yields and geopolitical developments remain central to the broader market backdrop said CoinSwitch Markets Desk

Market review by Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com
Bitcoin is trading around $83,770. The 82,000–83,000 zone remains an important support area, with $80,000 as the next downside level. Resistance is around 84,500–85,000. A sustained move above this zone would improve near-term sentiment.
ETF flows remain volatile. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $102.7 million of inflows on October 1 and $189.9 million on October 2. They then saw outflows of $89.8 million on October 5, followed by inflows of $118.8 million on October 6. Outflows accelerated to $484.9 million on October 7 and $244.1 million on October 8. October 9 saw a modest $21.1 million inflow. This pattern points to fragile institutional demand.
On-chain indicators remain mixed. The latest available readings show Bitcoin’s MVRV at 1.624 and SOPR at 1.0098. These suggest that holders remain in aggregate profit, with coins moved on-chain realising small gains. Nearly 63% of Bitcoin’s supply had remained unmoved for at least a year in the latest available data. These readings are not real-time.
Large-cap altcoins are showing a modest recovery. Ethereum is around ₹2,45,339, up 1.17% over 24 hours. BNB is near ₹72,924, up 0.56%. XRP is around ₹136, up 0.53%. Solana is near ₹10,759, up 1.03%. TRON is around ₹31.94, down 0.12%. The gains across most major altcoins suggest some stabilisation after the recent sell-off. However, the recovery remains tentative, with macroeconomic uncertainty and ETF flows continuing to influence broader market sentiment.
Macro conditions remain a key risk. The dollar index is near 102.14 and Brent crude is around $103.50 a barrel. Markets are pricing in about a 19% chance of an October Fed rate hike, with a December increase more likely. US CPI on October 14 could influence rate expectations.
Our advice: Investors should avoid chasing short-term rebounds. Watch Bitcoin’s 82,000–83,000 support zone, ETF flows and US inflation data before increasing exposure.

Market outlook by Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst, Delta Exchange
Crypto markets are stabilising after last week’s deleveraging, with Bitcoin near $84,000 and Ethereum above $2,500. The move still looks like a relief recovery rather than a confirmed reversal.
Bitcoin has recovered from around $80,300 and moved above its key 2-hour EMAs. The main resistance is $84,000–$85,000. A sustained break could open $86,000–$87,000, followed by $90,000. Support sits at $83,200–$83,500 and $82,000–$82,500. A break lower could bring $80,000–$81,000 back into focus.
Ethereum remains weaker. ETH is above its 20 and 50-period EMAs but below the 100 and 200 EMAs. A break above $2,565–$2,600 could target $2,700–$2,775. Below $2,515–$2,525, risk shifts toward $2,420–$2,450.
ETF flows remain mixed. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $21 million in inflows after nearly $730 million in combined outflows over the previous two sessions. Ethereum ETFs have posted nine consecutive sessions of outflows.
Macro remains a key risk. A strong dollar, elevated Treasury yields and higher oil prices continue to weigh on risk assets. Wednesday’s U.S. CPI is the next major catalyst, with headline inflation expected near 3.7%. A hotter print could pressure crypto, while softer inflation could support the rebound.
For Bitcoin, $84,000–$85,000 remains the key confirmation zone. For Ethereum, $2,600 is the first major hurdle, with $2,700 needed for a stronger shift in structure.

RBI's rupee boost to spur rally, trigger swings in forward premiums
(Reuters) - The Indian rupee is poised to rally at Monday’s open after the central bank stepped up efforts to curb dollar demand, while higher costs under a new foreign-exchange rule are expected to temper forward dollar buying and impact forward premiums.
The rupee is expected to strengthen about 1% to 95.60-95.90 per dollar, after settling at 96.73 on Friday, traders said.

Market quote by Nischal Shetty, Founder, WazirX
“Inflation expectations remained elevated as oil held above $100, while US Treasury yields stayed near 24-year highs and foreign capital continued leaving Indian equities. These conditions keep borrowing expensive and may restrict institutional flows into Bitcoin and altcoins. However, the probability of an October Federal Reserve hike fell to 19%, offering relief for liquidity and crypto participation. Overall, lower near-term tightening expectations support Bitcoin and Ethereum, but high yields, energy costs and a strong dollar keep broader market participation selective.
Bitcoin trades near $83,412 in a constructive but consolidating daily structure, with RSI at 53 showing balanced momentum. Immediate support lies around $83,200-$83,300, while $83,600-$84,100 forms resistance. Holding support could preserve buyer control; losing it may expose $82,400-$82,700. Futures traders should monitor volume, open interest, and funding for directional confirmation.
Ethereum trades near $2,533 in a range-bound daily structure, while longer-term moving averages continue to support the broader setup. Immediate support lies at $2,505, followed by $2,480. Resistance sits near $2,575 and the psychological $2,600 level. Holding support may preserve stability, while sustained activity above resistance could further strengthen momentum.
ICP trades near $3.46, remaining above all major daily moving averages, while RSI around 60 shows controlled momentum. The $3.22-$3.30 area provides support, followed by $3.20-$3.25. Buyers face resistance around $3.50-$3.60; rejection there could produce short-term consolidation during coming sessions.
Global markets ended firmer as US equities advanced, led by the Dow’s 0.83% gain, while the VIX fell 3.70%, signaling calmer investor sentiment. Asian trading remained mixed: the Sensex rose 1.23% and Hang Seng gained 0.77%, offsetting South Korea’s 1.91% decline. Gold added 0.43%, while oil fell 1.70%, easing inflation concerns. Stronger equities, lower volatility and reduced energy pressure create supportive conditions for continued capital participation across Bitcoin, Ethereum and broader crypto markets globally today.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $21.1 million in daily net inflows, while Ethereum ETFs posted $56.1 million in net outflows, extending their withdrawal streak to nine sessions. Bitcoin traded near $83,400, while Ethereum held around $2,533, showing a mixed response to institutional activity. Bitcoin’s modest inflow supported stability but did not trigger a sharp gain. ETF flows may not immediately lift prices because profit-taking, exchange supply, derivatives positioning, macro uncertainty and resistance near key levels can absorb fresh institutional demand.”

Procurement moat meets India’s recycling inflection point
Gravita India (Gravita) is a diversified recycling and resource recovery company with operations spanning lead, aluminium, plastic, rubber and copper recycling. It is emerging as a key beneficiary of India’s accelerating shift towards recycling-led metal supply. As primary supply struggles to keep pace, recycling is becoming increasingly strategic. Gravita combines a deep scrap sourcing network, a formalising industry backdrop and a scalable multi-metal platform to drive strong earnings growth at industry-leading returns. RMIL-led copper expansion further widens the opportunity beyond lead, opening the next leg of growth. We initiate coverage with an Outperform rating and a target price of Rs1,980.
Initiate with an Outperform rating and target price of Rs1,980
We forecast FY26-30 revenue/Ebitda/PAT Cagrs of 41%/36%/32%, with returns to improve post FY28CL as copper production ramps up. We initiate with a target price of Rs1,980 (15x Sep-28CL EV/Ebitda). Key risks include high working capital intensity, tighter scrap availability due to potential scrap-export restrictions in key regions (Middle East and Europe), faster EV adoption and OEM backward integration.

RBI liquidity measures may pressure India bonds; rupee rally to limit losses
(Reuters) - Indian government bonds could open the week under mild selling pressure after the central bank announced measures to absorb banking-system liquidity, although expectations of a sharp rupee rally may help limit losses.
The benchmark 6.94% 2036 bond yield may trade in a 7.26%-7.32% band, a trader with a primary dealership said, after ending at 7.2994% on Friday. Bond yields rise when prices fall.

Infosys says US PERM suspension won’t hit its business much
Indian IT giant Infosys does not expect any significant or material business impact from the recent U.S. decision to suspend it (along with firms like TCS, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, Capgemini, Microsoft, and Adobe) from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) program. PERM is a key early step in the employer-sponsored green-card process that requires companies to prove no qualified American workers are available for a role before sponsoring foreign employees for permanent residency; the suspension freezes new and pending applications for these companies amid allegations of overuse that disadvantages U.S. workers, though it does not affect existing H-1B visas.

RBI announces OMO sale of government securities worth Rs 25,000 crore
The Reserve Bank of India has announced an open market operation (OMO) sale of government securities worth Rs 25,000 crore, to be conducted on October 13, aimed at absorbing surplus liquidity from the banking system. Market dealers expect this to push bond yields 4-5 basis points higher when markets open on Monday, as the sale will reduce excess funds and put downward pressure on bond prices. This follows earlier OMO sales and other liquidity management measures by the RBI.
