  • Police raided the Pretoria North home of Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, an organised crime officer accused of being a key link between senior police officers and “Big 5 cartel” members.
  • Nkosi is one of five officers under criminal investigation following revelations at the Madlanga Commission.
  • During the raid, members of the media were asked not to photograph the property or officers.

Police officers raided the home of organised crime officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi in Pretoria North on Thursday morning.

Sources familiar with the operation stated that the police began the search shortly after 09:00, removing the premises’ occupants, including Nkosi’s wife, as they conducted the raid.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the police carried out a J51 search-and-seizure operation in Pretoria North as part of ongoing investigations.

However, she declined to identify the officer linked to the property, citing the active nature of the probe.

Nkosi has been accused of being a key police link between senior officers and alleged members of the “Big 5” cartel.

He is one of five police officers facing criminal investigations stemming from revelations made at the Madlanga Commission, which is probing criminality, political interference and corruption within the criminal justice system.

The other officers are Major General Lesetja Senona, Major General Richard Shibiri, Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu and Brigadier Rachel Matjeng.

Mathe stated that the raid forms part of ongoing police investigations.

Members of the media were asked not to take photographs or publish images of the police officer’s home, nor show the faces of the officers executing the search warrant.

Nkosi, who is allegedly linked to underworld figures, faced intense questioning before the Madlanga Commission, where he spent more than seven days testifying.

He was confronted with multiple pieces of evidence, including video footage and allegations that he collected money from alleged murderer Katiso Molefe’s home in a bag, purportedly on behalf of his superior, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya.

News24 previously reported that WhatsApp evidence revealed how Nkosi acted as a communication conduit between criminally accused tenderpreneur Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, Sibiya and other alleged police and underworld figures.

Further evidence also indicated that Nkosi shared sensitive police information with taxi kingpins and underworld figures, receiving money from some of these people – several of whom were the subjects of active police investigations.
