Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — A driver is facing a handful of charges after he was arrested by a Douglas County Deputy who saw him traveling the wrong way on Highway 85 after dark.
The deputy was patrolling southbound on Highway 85 between Highlands Ranch Parkway and Titan Road when he saw oncoming headlights in the southbound lanes. The deputy described the vehicle as traveling "at a high rate of speed," and immediately turned around to pull the wrong-way driver over.
The deputy can be seen in footage captured by his dashboard camera following the vehicle, which slowed for a red light at Highlands Ranch Parkway, but ultimately ran the red light and accelerated northbound in the southbound lanes.
The driver slowed again between Highlands Ranch Parkway and Town Center Drive, but then attempted to flee again. The pursuit continued until the vehicle stopped near Brandon Drive.
Deputies arrested the 40-year-old man, who is now facing charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, misdemeanor eluding and a red light violation.
"Driving impaired or recklessly can cost lives," the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said. "Our deputies are trained and committed to stopping threats to public safety before tragedy occurs."
The driver was not identified by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
