A 23-year-old allegedly hired hitmen to kill her widowed mother and stage it as an accident so she could inherit property and get her job, police said.

Neeraj Sharma, 45, was killed on the spot in India on July 3 after being struck by a car going nearly 80mph, which threw her nearly 100ft from the vehicle. CCTV footage released by police on Tuesday showed the sickening impact of the incident and an SUV speeding away from the scene at around 4.45pm in the Pratap Nagar region of Jaipur.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident, including Ms Sharma's daughter Ayushi, Ayushi's paternal uncle, Mohan Swaroop, 56, the alleged hitman Hemant Sharma, 20, and four accomplices. Mohan Swaroop’s son and Ayushi’s cousin, Balram, is absconding.

The investigation was launched after Neeraj’s brother Rakesh filed a report of alleged murder. He said Ms Sharma repeatedly complained her daughter was harassing her, her mother-in-law and her nephew Balram over her property.

“Neeraj learnt about her daughter’s violent tendencies. She confided in her brother Rakesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Bayana in Bharatpur, that Ayushi was going down a very dangerous path,” a police official said, reports the Times of India.

Police said Ayushi hatched the plan because she wanted a government job that was handed to her mother on compassionate grounds after her father died around a year ago. Vijay Kumar Sharma had worked as a lower division clerk (LDC) at a court so Neeraj was given a job in his place.

“Ayushi blamed her mother for ruining her future by not letting her get the government job,” a police officer said.

Police said that Ayushi, Mohan Swaroop and Balram began plotting ways to kill her and had already had a failed attempt using a rented SUV.

They allegedly hired Hemant Sharma of Bayana for 700,000Rs (£5,467) to execute the murder, who then hired four associates.

Balram aka Ravi then allegedly arranged another SUV, and the trio monitored Neeraj for nearly a month. The SUV believed to have been used in the murder has been seized.
