DENVER (KDVR) — The Fourth of July is a summer holiday usually filled with cookouts, pool days and fireworks, but this year, there might be a slight change of plans with rain in the Denver forecast.

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, celebrates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This year, the federal holiday lands on a Friday, but it might look a little different if you're planning on spending the long weekend outside.

While the holiday is still a few days out, the Pinpoint Weather team is tracking some storms.

Will it rain on the Fourth of July?

Denver will stay sunny and near 90 degrees heading into the holiday, but there are storms on the way for the Fourth of July. While there's some rain on the way, the day isn't a complete wash, and there should still be time for a grill out.

Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said July 4 will have a mix of sun and clouds with seasonal temperatures in the upper 80s. The sun will stick around until the afternoon, when there are chances for a quick afternoon and evening storms.

While there could be some rain, Michels said it shouldn't ruin your plans, it may just delay putting burgers on the grill or kicking off fireworks later at night. That said, Michels said to keep an eye on the sky, and as the saying goes, "if thunder roars, go indoors."

While it won't be too rainy on the fourth, more storms are on the way.

Michels said there will be isolated storms on Saturday and better chances for afternoon storms on Sunday. It's going to rain all weekend, but these are passing storms, and it shouldn't cancel any plans.
