I, Jack Wright has officially landed on BBC One bringing a star-studded cast of familiar faces to the murder mystery drama

I, Jack Wright has officially arrived on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The six-part series, penned by Chris Lang — the writer behind Unforgotten, Innocent, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe — is a twisty whodunit boasting a star-studded cast that has already garnered glowing reviews.

The murder mystery drama originally made its debut in April 2025 on U&Alibi before being snapped up by the BBC. This means not only will series one be re-broadcast on the channel, but the corporation has also acquired series two, which is currently in production.

Viewers who caught the drama on U&Alibi have awarded it top marks on review sites, with some declaring I, Jack Wright "faultless" thanks to its gripping script and impressive ensemble cast, including Nikki Amuka-Bird, John Simm, Daniel Rigby, Ruby Ashbourne-Serkis, Zoë Tapper, Percelle Ascott, Harry Lloyd and Liz Kingsman. Nikki Amuka-Bird plays Sally Wright

Nikki portrays Sally Wright, the third wife of Jack Wright. Nikki describes her character as a highly successful, wealthy lawyer and mother.

Upon losing her husband, she discovers he has betrayed her, leaving both her and her son with absolutely nothing in terms of inheritance. This sets her off on a quest to uncover the truth behind his actions and seek justice for her family.

Viewers may well recognise Nikki from her appearances in Torchwood, Silent Witness, Luther, Death in Paradise, Inside No 9, Doctor Who, Hard Sun, Avenue 5 and Citadel. Most recently, she featured in the mini-series Betrayal.

John Simm plays Gray Wright

John Simm takes on the role of Gray Wright, the eldest son of Jack Wright. John describes him as the "bad apple" of the family.

When viewers encounter him, his best days are well behind him — he's in debt and has landed himself in a thoroughly difficult situation. Gray was a minor pop or rock star during the 90s, perhaps notching up one or two top 10 hits, and has since become a record producer running his own label, a modest indie operation.

It's quite a departure for John, who is best known for portraying the Master in Doctor Who, detective Sam Tyler in Life on Mars, and detective Roy Grace in ITV's Grace, now into its sixth series.

Gemma Jones plays Rose Wright

Gemma portrays Rose, Jack Wright's first wife. Gemma said of her character: "My feeling is that they fell madly in love when they first met. I think theirs was definitely a love match and nothing to do with money."

Gemma is widely recognised for her role as Bridget Jones' mother in the Bridget Jones film franchise and as Madam Pomfrey in the Harry Potter series. She also appeared in the film Sense and Sensibility, with television credits including Gentleman Jack, Unforgotten, Finding Alice, Trial and Retribution and MI-5.

Trevor Eve plays Jack Wright

Trevor portrays the central character, Jack Wright — a born-and-bred Yorkshireman and multimillionaire patriarch. Speaking about the role, he said: "He's an authoritarian in his patriarchal capacity, and when he speaks, he expects everyone to listen and obey. He's probably struggling in an age that has passed him by, but he has enough money to protect him from the world. He's pretty happy with his life."

This isn't Trevor's first collaboration with writer Chris Lang, having previously appeared in both Lawless and Unforgotten. Most viewers, however, will know Trevor best for his portrayal of Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd in the long-running BBC drama Waking the Dead.

He first rose to prominence playing lead detective Eddie in the detective series Shoestring in 1979, and has since appeared in A Discovery of Witches, The Interceptor, Death Comes to Pemberley and Kidnap and Ransom.

Daniel Rigby plays John Wright

Daniel takes on the role of John Wright, Jack Wright's second son, who is poised to take the reins of the family firm — a hugely successful brick-baking business. John has devoted his entire life to earning his father's approval and doing right by the family.

Daniel is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Eric Morecambe in the 2011 BBC television film Eric and Ernie. Audiences will also recognise him from the series Flowers, alongside dramas Jericho, Sick Note, Landscapers, The Witchfinder, Tom Jones and, most recently, Summerwater.

Interesting fact, Daniel also provides the narration for the beloved children's show Teletubbies.

Ruby Ashbourne Serkis plays Emily Wright

Ruby portrays Emily Wright, the only grandchild of the Wright family. Her father is Gray Wright, and she's spent recent years in California, establishing her own social media platform venture with her fiancé Kyle.

She returns from overseas and quickly finds herself deeply entangled in the turmoil following Jack Wright's death.

Ruby is recognised for her performances in Star City, Shardlake, Becoming Elizabeth and The Letter for the King. She also appeared as Agnes in the 2026 Peaky Blinders film.

The cast of I, Jack Wright also features Rakhee Thakrar as Laura Johnstone, Harry Lloyd as DCI Hector Morgan, Zoë Tapper as Georgia Wright, Liz Kingsman as DC Katie Jones, James Fleet as Bobby, Sabrina Bartlett as Bella, and Percelle Ascott as Reuben.
