Washington — President Trump has not yet chosen who will succeed White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who is set to leave the role Friday, according to administration officials familiar with the matter.

In the interim, the job of leading White House press briefings is expected to rotate among senior administration figures, the officials said. The briefings will be handled by top officials rather than by members of the White House press or communications teams.

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has been reviewing possible candidates to replace Leavitt, but the search remains unsettled and no clear favorite has emerged, two sources said. Republican commentator Scott Jennings has been discussed as a possible option, though he is not expected to be the ultimate pick.

Leavitt’s press operation is expected to remain in place, with staffers reporting to Communications Director Steven Cheung. Her executive assistant, Kieghan Nangle, will transition into a press wrangler role.

As Leavitt said last week, she plans to return to MAGA Inc., Mr. Trump’s super PAC, while continuing to serve as a prominent outside adviser to the president. She has also told associates she expects to take part in additional efforts that have not yet been publicly announced.

Mr. Trump announced Leavitt’s White House departure two weeks ago in a Truth Social post, saying she would remain “an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections.”
