Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — Interstate 70 is eastbound is now reopen at the Eisenhower Tunnel, with closures westbound still in effect, following aa vehicle caught fire on Thursday afternoon.
Clear Creek Sheriff's Office stated at 2:51 p.m., that "I-70 East has reopened at the Eisenhower Tunnel."
The closures on westbound are still in effect, which follows:
- All lanes are closed on westbound I-70 at milepost 217 due to a crash.
- Westbound I-70 has a detour in place at milepost 215
Colorado State Patrol Golden, said in a statement on X, at 1:46 pm, that the westbound roadway is closed 3 miles before the eastern entrance of the tunnel for a vehicle fire and "possible fatality." The fire appeared to be in the middle of the roadway, with heavy smoke around it.
The Clear Creek Sheriff's Office says the closure in both directions is due to a multi-vehicle crash, according to preliminary info.
At this time, it's unclear what the cause of the fire is and if there are any injuries.
COtrip said drivers should expect delays. If you're looking to get around the traffic, there are ways around I-70, but it won't be as quick.
