Bournemouth take a 1-0 lead into half-time against Manchester City in their Premier League opener at the Etihad.

After looking to start quickly following the 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield last Sunday, it was not the dream start that Enzo Maresca wanted on his return to Manchester.

With a makeshift starting XI that included Marc Guehi as a central midfielder and Rico Lewis at right-back, City did not struggle to dominate the ball.

They could have gone ahead themselves, with Erling Haaland missing an easy chance by his standards.

But Bournemouth looked dangerous on the counter-attack, and City’s high line would be their undoing.

After a long ball up from the goalkeeper, Rayan swept up the loose ball, playing in Evanilson, who fired across goal for Marcus Tavernier to poke home.

It was not the only chance for the Cherries either, who have a new manager themselves in Marco Rose.

Tavernier went close again with a long-range effort, and to an extent, City will be glad to head into the break just one goal down.
