Fireworks that leave the ground or explode are illegal in Colorado, except with proper permissions and certifications for professional displays. Despite this, agencies across the state are expecting a high volume of calls reporting fireworks.

Fires break out across Denver metro, several reportedly caused by fireworks

Dispatchers ask that concerned residents avoid calling 911 to report fireworks, unless there is a serious emergency, injury or risk, as it can clog phone lines for urgent emergencies. Those concerned about fireworks in their area can see FOX31's guide for how to report illegal fireworks across the Denver metro.

Be sure to soak used fireworks, including sparklers, in water to reduce the risk of fire.
