Unwrought aluminum exported from all countries was worth a total US$78.5 billion in 2025, up by an average 5.1% starting from $74.7 billion five years earlier in 2021.

Year over year, the value of exported raw aluminum went up by 9.3% compared to $71.8 billion for 2024.

By value, the 6 biggest exporters (Russia, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Malaysia, India and Norway) generated almost half (48.6%) of aluminum shipments in 2025.

Spelled aluminium by British writers, aluminum is the world’s most widely used non-iron and non-steel metal and is the basic ingredient for a wide range of recyclable products. The latter includes beverage cans, construction materials and transport vehicles. Silvery-white in color, pure aluminum is non-magnetic and is also notable for its low density, relatively light weight and resistance to corrosion.

Among continents, Asian countries sold the highest dollar worth of exported aluminum during 2025 with shipments valued at $30.2 billion or 38.5% of the global total. In second place were Europe-based exporters at 37.6% while another 11.1% of worldwide aluminum shipments originated from North America.

Smaller percentages came from providers in Oceania (6.2%) led by Australia and New Zealand, Africa (5.3%), then Latin America (1.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.

For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix for raw aluminum is 7601.

Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of aluminum during 2025.

  1. Russia: US$9.6 billion (12.3% of total aluminum exports)
  2. United Arab Emirates: $7.8 billion (9.9%)
  3. Canada: $7.5 billion (9.5%)
  4. Malaysia: $5 billion (6.3%)
  5. India: $4.2 billion (5.3%)
  6. Norway: $4.16 billion (5.3%)
  7. Australia: $4.07 billion (5.2%)
  8. Bahrain: $3.5 billion (4.5%)
  9. Netherlands: $2.7 billion (3.5%)
  10. Iceland: $2.2 billion (2.8%)
  11. Qatar: $1.93 billion (2.5%)
  12. Italy: $1.86 billion (2.4%)
  13. South Africa: $1.78 billion (2.3%)
  14. Indonesia: $1.6 billion (2%)
  15. mainland China: $1.56 billion (2%)

By value, the listed 15 countries shipped just over three-quarters (75.7%) of global aluminum exported in 2025.

Among the top exporters, the fastest-growing aluminum exporters since 2024 were: mainland China (up 65.6%), Indonesia (up 63.8%), United Arab Emirates (up 44.6%) and Russia (up 38.5%).

Those countries that posted declines in their exported aluminum sales were India (down -14% from 2024) and Canada (down -9.5%).

Countries Earning Greatest Surpluses from Global Aluminum Trade

The following countries posted the highest positive net exports for aluminum during 2025. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Thus, the statistics below present the surplus between the value of each country’s exported aluminum and its import purchases for that same commodity.

  1. Russia: US$9.6 billion (net export surplus up 39% since 2024)
  2. United Arab Emirates: $7.7 billion (up 46.2%)
  3. Canada: $7.1 billion (down -9.6%)
  4. Australia: $3.9 billion (up 6.1%)
  5. Malaysia: $3.7 billion (up 87.2%)
  6. Norway: $3.6 billion (up 15.1%)
  7. Bahrain: $3.5 billion (up 3.9%)
  8. India: $2.9 billion (down -23.9%)
  9. Iceland: $2.2 billion (up 9.8%)
  10. Qatar: $1.9 billion (up 8%)
  11. South Africa: $1.7 billion (up 17%)
  12. Mozambique: $1.4 billion (up 24.6%)
  13. Indonesia: $909.7 million (up 151.3%)
  14. New Zealand: $782.5 million (up 11.6%)
  15. Oman: $684 million (up 26.9%)

Russia, UAE and Canada generated the highest surpluses in the international trade of aluminum. In turn, this positive cashflow confirms the strong competitive advantages for those countries in the international trade for this specific product category.

Countries Incurring Worst Deficits from Global Aluminum Trade

The following countries posted the highest negative net exports for aluminum during 2025. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Thus, the statistics below present the deficit between the value of each country’s imported aluminum purchases and its exports for that same commodity.

  1. United States: -US$8.8 billion (net export deficit down -6.2% since 2024)
  2. mainland China: -$7.5 billion (up 6.1%)
  3. Japan: -$5.7 billion (up 8.6%)
  4. Germany: -$4.9 billion (down -2%)
  5. Türkiye: -$4.4 billion (up 27.4%)
  6. South Korea: -$3.7 billion (up 9.3%)
  7. Mexico: -$2.9 billion (up 1.9%)
  8. Italy: -$2.5 billion (up 50.8%)
  9. Vietnam: -$1.7 billion (up 38.3%)
  10. Poland: -$1.5 billion (up 21.6%)
  11. Thailand: -$1.36 billion (up 11.3%)
  12. Spain: -$1.34 billion (up 34.9%)
  13. Taiwan: -$1.25 billion (up 10.7%)
  14. Netherlands: -$1.1 billion (up 178.7%)
  15. Greece: -$988.8 million (up 15.1%)

The United States of America incurred the highest deficit in the international trade of aluminum during 2025, with American imports of the silvery metal far outpacing its exports.

These negative cashflows highlight America’s competitive disadvantage for this specific product category and conversely signals opportunities for aluminum-supplying countries that help satisfy the powerful demand.
