Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- A Thornton police officer was injured Sunday afternoon when their vehicle was hit while they were responding to a medical emergency call, according to the Thornton Police Department.
The crash happened near 104th Avenue and Washington Street and shut down westbound 104th Avenue, Thornton police said in a 2:15 p.m. Sunday post on X.
Preliminary information showed the driver who hit the police vehicle did not yield as the officer was responding to the other call, and the vehicle did have lights and sirens on, police said.
The officer has non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The Northglenn Police Department is investigating.
This comes the same day as a Colorado State Patrol vehicle was hit while the trooper was working another crash, and the trooper and a Colorado Department of Transportation contract highway worker were injured.
Earlier this month, a marked Castle Rock police patrol car with emergency lights was totaled when another driver crashed into its back end, causing the car to catch fire.
Trooper Sherri Mendez of the Colorado State Patrol told FOX31's Shaul Turner earlier this month following Colorado's Move Over Law is crucial to saving lives on the road and drivers should slow down and move over when they see any vehicle on the side of the road with flashing lights.
“We’re doing our job and we expect other people to do their job and be responsible and move over for us,” she said then.
