DENVER (KDVR) — Several Colorado schools have been considered some of the best in the U.S., and now, they're even ranked as some of the best in the world.

U.S. News & World Report released its 2025-2026 "Best Global Universities" rankings, an annual list of the best universities across the world. The list used factors like the institutions' overall academic research, like publications and citations, and reputations, like academics' opinions, to determine their "global score."

The list of 2,250 schools included universities across over 100 counties, including places in Italy, Japan and the Netherlands. Out of all the schools, almost 300 schools in the Unites States were on the list, including several in Colorado.

Colorado universities rank as some of best in world

Harvard University took the title of the top university, with a ranking of 100, with Massachusetts Institue of Technology and Stanford University as runner ups with global scores of 97.2 and 94.2.

Here's how the Colorado schools that made the list ranked:

CU Boulder ranked above renowned schools like Brown University and Rutgers University, and was ranked No. 7 in the world for its geoscience subject. Meanwhile CU Anschutz Medical Campus ranked as No. 19 best for its subject of endocrinology and metabolism. CSU ranked as No. 40 for its subject of ecology.

The report said these rankings can be used to help students make a decision on which school they should apply to, however, other factors not on the list should be considered, like where students want to live and school size.
