Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- Speed radar cameras have been installed in Fort Collins, and drivers will have a few weeks of a grace period before warnings turn into citations.
Fort Collins Police Services announced on Facebook that the cameras are now activated and will issue warnings to drivers caught speeding.
The warnings will remain in effect until June 30, and citations will be issued starting in July. FCPS said that the units will be set to issue citations for violators exceeding the speed limit by 11 mph or more.
According to the agency's website, speeding violations caught by the radar cameras come with a $40 civil penalty. Violations will not add points to a driver's license.
If a driver is caught speeding at 25 mph or more over the speed limit, the system will document it and an officer will investigate it, and the violator may be served a traffic ticket.
The city has previously used speed enforcement vans, and these new units will also be transportable and will be relocated around the city. More information about speed camera and red light camera tickets can be found on the city's website.
