Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado State Patrol is conducting sobriety checkpoints in Carbondale and Rio Grande County this month.
The first checkpoint will be July 10 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Sherman Avenue in Monte Vista. The second checkpoint will be July 26 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Hwy 133 in Carbondale, the CSP said Tuesday.
The CSP said drivers who are caught driving impaired can expect to be arrested for DUI and face jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $13,000.
The agency said the main goal of the sobriety checkpoints is to make roads safer.
"The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by discouraging motorists from driving impaired," the CSP said in a news release.
The CSP said the location of the July sobriety checkpoints were chosen based on the history of DUI crashes and arrests.
