DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver-based Lily's Toaster Grills donated over 500,000 grilled cheese sandwiches to organizations that help families experiencing food insecurity, according to a press release from the company.

The donation was made as part of the Grilled Cheese for Good initiative.

Feeding America, an organization working to end hunger in the United States, says that annually, 47 million people face food insecurity in the country, which includes 14 million children.

Lily's Toaster Grills partnered with organizations, including:

  • We Don't Waste
  • Breakthrough at Kent Denver
  • The Action Center
  • Jeffco Eats
  • Rocky Mountain Prep Schools
  • Milo's Market at CU Denver
  • Mid-South Food Bank

The organizations would help distribute the sandwiches across Colorado and to families in Memphis through year-round collaborations.

"Giving back has been part of our mission since day one," said Rob Hearne, CEO of Lily's Toaster Grills, in the press release. "Long before we ever sold a sandwich in stores, we were hand-delivering them to elementary schools in Denver—because every child deserves a warm, nourishing meal. As our brand has grown, so has our ability to give."
