The Boston Red Sox showed they aren't afraid to risk some pushback from fans if they see an opportunity to improve the outlook for their team.

That was plain when they traded franchise slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. In the immediate aftermath of that move, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said that there's a "real chance that at the end of the season we're looking back and we've won more games than we otherwise would've," per ESPN.

And the latest news suggests Breslow could see a similar opportunity by trading away reigning All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran.

"As the (San Diego) Padres face a daunting schedule and glaring holes at the bottom of their lineup, their list of trade targets again includes Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran," Dennis Lin reported for The Athletic. "Now, an underwhelming Red Sox team might consider Duran expendable."

With Duran garnering interest from other teams, the Red Sox could be looking to sell high after his breakout season. But rather than working with the Padres to move him, Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints suggested the Red Sox return to the negotiating table with the Giants.

"Clearly, the two are comfortable doing business together," Bassett noted. "Duran is a speed threat who can hit for both power and contact. He'd give the Giants a four-headed outfield monster and better their chances of winning this year's World Series. Plus, he obviously has familiarity with the recently traded for Devers."

While the Giants could use an upgrade in the outfield as they look to close the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Red Sox seem to have a surplus, with Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreau, Rob Refsnyder and Roman Anthony all competing for at-bats.

And if the Red Sox opt to move Duran to the Giants to clear that logjam, Bassett projected that they could land prospects Carson Whisenhunt, Rayner Arias and Carson Ragsdale in return.

That type of haul could be enough to bring the Red Sox back to the table with the Giants to replenish their farm system after several high-profile promotions, or to land some trade chips that get flipped into another deal for Boston.
