DENVER (KDVR) — Denver police are looking for a suspect they are calling the "Blue raincoat convenience store burglar."

The police department shared images of surveillance video showing the suspect in the act, going from store to store in the Denver Metro Area stealing cigarette products.

Many of these burglaries are happening at corporate stores, so employees were not allowed to speak with FOX31 on camera, but it was clear they are on edge. They hope the pictures will help track the suspect down.

It's not unusual to find Tony on his daily route walking along the 1000 block of Sheridan Boulevard.

“I walk from the light rail down this way down 6th," he said.

He was shocked to learn the convenience store he passes by every day has been a target for the masked suspect wearing a blue raincoat.

“He could be after more than that," said Tony. "He could be robbing people or something.”

Denver police released a crime alert Tuesday, saying the suspect appears to target cigarette products and has roughly stolen several thousand dollars worth of products up to this point.

“Since March 5, we’ve seen this pattern of this person wearing a blue raincoat, covering his face with a blue mask and has a khaki bag. He breaks into these convenience stores after they are closed," said Jay Casillas, public information officer with the Denver police.

Casillas says the suspect hit about seven stores around the DMA within the last three months.

“At least in my experience, for what I seen, usually people break in and take things, but cigarette products are a little different, right," said Casillas. "That's why when we saw that pattern, we believe someone knows who this person could be. That's why we tied these cases together. He covers his face up, so it does make it a little more difficult to identify this person, but we’re hoping someone recognizes this person."

Now, as Tony takes his daily walk in the area, he plans to be more vigilant.

“I walk this area a lot and it does make me nervous to see that," he said. "I haven’t seen it but I could run into it.”

Police are asking you to take a good look at the suspect. They know someone out there recognizes the person in the pictures, and they urge you to call the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 with any information that could lead to an arrest.
