Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Police Department arrested 35 people Saturday night after a day filled with nationwide "No Kings" protests and unaffiliated marchers across Denver.
Police in a Sunday morning update said they believe the later protests Saturday night were a separate group of protesters from the peaceful "No Kings" events, and that the arrests happened after the "No Kings" event at the Colorado state Capitol had ended.
"DPD believes the vast majority of people participating in the No Kings demonstration left after the event concluded at approximately 4:00 p.m.," police said in a press release Sunday. "Those marches and demonstrations were peaceful. DPD believes a separate group of people were protesting last night when the arrests occurred."
Police initially said Saturday night they had arrest 17 people, but on Sunday provided a list of 36 people. Of those, 35 were arrested and one juvenile was cited and released, police said.

Police also arrested 17 people less than a week ago after protests in solidarity with Los Angeles protesters against immigration enforcement.
The department also said a second separate march of protesters was stopped in downtown Denver on a road with Interstate 25 access Saturday night, after they had already dispersed a group unaffiliated with the Denver "No Kings" event, which ended at 4 p.m., that had closed Colfax Avenue between Speer and Interstate 25 at around 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Then, at around 9 p.m., another group marched to the intersection of 20th and Blake streets, right in front of Coors Field and a few blocks away from I-25, police said in a press release.
The group at 20th and Blake streets met officers who had already been staging at the intersection before the group arrived to prevent any protesters from accessing the interstate.
Officers made loudspeaker announcements telling the group they could not access the interstate, but the officers declared an unlawful assembly when they observed the protesters picking up rocks, which police were also thrown in the Colfax confrontation.
"Following additional dispersal orders and time, protestors began advancing toward officers, and officers used pepper balls and smoke (no tear gas was used) to disperse the group and for area denial," police said. "Protestors again threw rocks and objects at officers. However, the group was dispersed from the area."
Later in the night around 10 p.m., a protester started a small fire in the street in the 1400 block of Lincoln Street, which closed the roadway at the times. The fire burned out after a short time, and officers dispersed the protesters in the area.
