Some of the suspects that were arrested during a dramatic intelligence-driven operation at a fuel plant in Meyerton on Sunday, after the Hawks uncovered an alleged fuel theft operation linked to the facility.
The Hawks arrested 11 suspects aged between 27 and 46 at a fuel plant in Meyerton, Johannesburg, on Sunday after uncovering an alleged fuel theft operation linked to the facility.
Members attached to the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section swooped on the premises following intelligence indicating that a fuel robbery was allegedly being planned at the plant.

Authorities immediately operationalised the information and placed the area under close surveillance.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Singo said during the operation, investigators observed two fuel tankers entering the premises allegedly under suspicious circumstances.
Preliminary investigations later revealed that the fuel plant had allegedly been placed under administration, raising further questions about the legality of activities taking place at the site.
Singo said 11 suspects were subsequently arrested at the scene on allegations linked to fuel theft.

According to Singo, investigators were also probing possible internal collusion after preliminary findings suggested that security personnel responsible for guarding the premises might have been working with the suspects.
He said it was an “active crime scene” as investigators were processing evidence and gathering additional information linked to the operation.
The Hawks have not yet disclosed whether additional arrests are expected as investigations continue.
