DENVER (KDVR) — Caught on camera: A car crashes into an air conditioning unit before smashing into a garage in Denver and causing a lot of damage.

It happened near the 2800 block of Pancratia Street. Now, police are looking for the driver responsible, while neighbors are left footing the bill for the damage.

The crash happened in the wee hours of May 10 and woke up neighbors around 3:45 a.m. Neighbors Ben Nabulsi and Tara Eversole showed FOX31 the damage left outside their homes.

“It was very quick but at the same time very damaging," said Ben. "We woke up at 3:45 am when the alarm system detected glass being broken. I thought it was an intruder, but that wasn’t the case."

Ben's camera caught the situation unfolding. His neighbor Tara is still in disbelief.

"If we didn’t have it on video, it’s almost like you wouldn’t believe this actually happened," said Tara.

Now, without cold air during some of the hottest weather so far this year.

“It’s been very inconvenient," said Tara. "I work from home and I’m on the top floor. It's a townhome, so it’s very warm up there. We try to keep the blinds closed and the fans blowing."

“It cost me about $4,000 to replace and we just moved in. So, that was a very unexpected surprise," said Ben.

Both neighbors say they are grateful no one was hurt on a street where kids play outside and people often walk their dogs.

Ben says speeding happens often on his street, and he believes the construction in the area could be partly the blame.

“They don't think we live here," said Ben. “We are working to hopefully get some speed bumps here to help slow it down as much as possible.”

Tara said, “It’s disheartening to obviously see someone cause damage to your property and then just drive off without a second thought, leaving us to foot the bill for it is pretty selfish, but we haven’t given up and we’re not going to just let it go."
