Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Police Department says it is aware of upcoming “takeover” events and is planning to try and minimize their impact.
A takeover that took place at The Shops At Northfield this weekend reportedly was violent when fights broke out both outside and inside the store.
DPD said approximately 300 juveniles gathered in the area and entered businesses and engaged in fights and disturbances. People who attend these “takeovers” can hear about them through social media sites.
FOX31 acquired new video of one of the takeovers. It shows a large crowd of people at the complex shouting and in some cases fighting.
The video was shot by a FOX31 employee named Sydney. She could see the takeover unfolding from her balcony.
“I just thought it was insane that so many kids were gathering to hurt each other,” said Sydney.
In the video, you can see fights breaking out.
In other videos previously acquired by FOX31, you can see what appear to be young people spread out at or near The Shops at Northfield Outdoor Mall Sunday evening.
Now, Denver police say they are aware of other possible events taking place as well.
“We have different ways of watching and social media is one of those ways we try to keep ourselves updated on when these events will take place,” Denver Public Information Officer Jay Casillas said.
FOX31 spotted fliers for possible upcoming takeovers at City Park, Elitch Gardens, Lakeside Amusement Park and Town Center Aurora.
Law Enforcement Tactical Expert James Allbee said parents need to watch their children’s internet use closely.
“That’s how this stuff ends up manifesting. We are not paying attention to what’s going on and the kids are going out there causing a ruckus,” Allbee said.
DPD is asking anyone who hears about a possible takeover taking place to report that event before it happens or as it’s happening.
