A blood drive held in collaboration between Metallica, the American Red Cross and the band's foundation, All Within My Hands, yielded record-breaking results in Denver this week, according to the band's public relations firm, Nasty Little Man.
The event was held from June 23-24 at Empower Field at Mile High — where Metallica is set to play on June 29 as part of its current world tour — and "resulted in the biggest/highest blood drive in the history of the Denver Red Cross," according to the firm.
"By rolling up a sleeve to give, the Metallica family can help trauma victims, those facing cancer, new mothers, people living with sickle cell disease and so many more," reads a post about the Metallica blood drive events on the American Red Cross website.
Donors received a limited-edition Red Cross X Metallica T-Shirt.
Denver was one of a handful of cities where the band held a blood drive, and some attendees traveled thousands of miles to participate, according to the PR firm.
One donor flew from Oregon just to donate and said he had to have the t-shirt and guitar pick. A Minnesota woman attended every stop on the United States portion of Metallica's tour and waited until Denver to donate.
The concert is happening Sunday night at Empower Field, and there will also be several Metallica pop-up events around Denver leading up to the show, including a sneak peek of the band's latest film project, a pop-up shop with art and exclusive merchandise, and more.
