This year's NBA offseason has already been filled with numerous moves. This trade alone is the second of the day. The first trade that took place was between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls.
The Lakers acquired the No. 45 pick in Thursday's second round, while the Bulls received the No. 55 pick and cash.
This trade makes all the sense in the world for the Nets, as they had a record-breaking five first-round picks on Wednesday night. Now they will collect two future second-round picks.
The Nets held a ton of picks on Wednesday night. While many expected them to move at least one of their five first-round picks, Brooklyn held onto all of them. In doing so, they made history — becoming the first franchise to ever make five selections in the opening round of an NBA Draft.
Brooklyn entered the draft with pick Nos. 8, 19, 22, 26 and 27. In order, they used those picks on Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf; four of the five players were guards.
As for the Suns, they now hold three second-round picks on Thursday, which include the Nos. 36, 52 and 59. This deal now gives them more flexibility to add young talent or package picks in future trades.
The Suns are looking to build on their young players after a disappointing 2024-25 season. After a hot start, the Suns quickly unraveled and found themselves on the outside looking in regarding the playoff and play-in tournament races. They finished as the No. 11 seed in the West and traded away their best player, Kevin Durant, to the Houston Rockets earlier in the week.
As for the Nets, they are coming off a disastrous season. Brooklyn was never in contention and finished the season with a 26-56 record, which secured the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference.
