Manchester United‘s move to sign midfielder Ederson has reportedly collapsed.

United agreed a €45million (£35m) deal with Atalanta for Ederson last month to bolster their midfield following the end of Casemiro’s spell at Old Trafford.

Ederson was drafted into Brazil’s World Cup squad after an injury to right-back Wesley, and he subsequently played in two games as a substitute as the Selecao saw their tournament ended in the last 16 with a 2-0 defeat to Norway.

Recent reports claimed United were prepared to pull the plug on the deal amid concerns over his medical tests.

And transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that the transfer is now off.

Atalanta are said to believe Ederson is 100 per cent fit and will welcome him back to their squad for the new Serie A season.

United agreed a deal for another Brazil midfielder, Andrey Santos, earlier this week. He is set to join from Chelsea in a £50m move.

They will likely now look to alternative targets following the collapse of the Ederson deal. Michael Carrick’s men have been linked with Roma’s Manu Kone, who is impressing for France at the World Cup, and Alex Scott of Bournemouth.
