Jason Halkett will have to wait a few more weeks to learn his sentence after pleading guilty to starting Saskatchewan’s devastating Ditch-2 wildfire last year. The fire scorched more than 200,000 hectares, damaged structures and forced several communities to evacuate. Halkett’s sentencing was delayed Thursday due to a lengthy court docket, with the Crown and defence putting forward contested sentencing submissions. He remains in custody and is expected back in court Sept. 17, facing a maximum possible sentence of 14 years in prison.
