DENVER (KDVR) — The Boulder Police Department has stated that the victim count is now 10, after the arrest of a man who allegedly assaulted people with a chain in the area.

BPD stated, following the department's press release on June 27, "the detectives have since learned that there were two earlier assaults likely involving the same suspect, bringing the victim count to 10."

Around 4 a.m. on June 26, a man was transported to the hospital after allegedly being assaulted with a chain by a man; the alleged assault was reported near Broadway and Arapahoe Avenue. Patrol officers went to the scene but were unable to find the suspect.

Also on June 26, around 7:30 a.m., BPD said that another victim walked into the police department to file a report about a man allegedly hitting his bike with a chain.

Police stated that at 11 a.m. on June 26, officers began receiving multiple reports of chain assaults happening in the area, including 13th Street and Canyon Boulevard. The reports were ongoing from 11 a.m. until the suspect’s arrest at 4:24 p.m.

At that time, seven women and one man were said to be victims of the suspected chain assaults. In some of the cases reported, the suspect hit victims with the chain; in others, the chain was swung "in a threatening manner" but hit a vehicle. The initial reports from the 8 possible victims were not life-threatening.

Detectives are working with the District Attorney’s Office, and the name of the suspect has not been released as it is an ongoing investigation.

BPD is asking for anyone with information regarding this case to call the department at 303-441-1974.
