Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — Arapahoe Basin Ski Area closed for the season on Sunday, officially marking the end of the ski season in Colorado.
The months-long ski season kicked off in Colorado with Wolf Creek Ski Area opening in late October. Then, for the next eight months, over 28 million skiers hit the Rocky Mountain Region's slopes before the ski areas started to close in late March.
While some of the first mountains wrapped up operations in the early spring, others kept going into the warm weather. Breckenridge Ski Resort and Loveland Ski Area were open until early May, but A-Basin stayed open later, and even extended its season into mid-June.
At the start of June, A-Basin said there was still a 41-inch base of snow on the slopes and announced it would stay open one more week past its planned closing date on June 8. On Sunday, skiers hit the Colorado slopes for one last time this season in shorts.
While most ski areas wrapped up their operations about a month before A-Basin, the ski area is known for staying open the latest, with trails open into the summer. In 2019, A-Basin was open on the Fourth of July, and in 1995, A-Basin stayed open until August.
The ski areas are done with their winter operations, but many mountains are already open again for their summer activities.
