Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- An inmate at Denver's Downtown Detention Center was arrested Monday for investigation into the first-degree murder of another inmate with whom he shared a housing unit, according to the Denver Police Department.
A Denver sheriff's deputy on Monday at about 2:15 a.m. responded to an unresponsive man in a housing unit at the detention center, and the man was pronounced deceased shortly after the sheriff's office and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures.
Denver police investigators found signs that the victim had been assaulted and that the injuries likely resulted in the victim’s death, according to a police press release.
Investigators identified Rick Roybal-Smith, 38, as the suspect who assaulted the victim, who was not identified by police, and arrested him in connection to the homicide.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, police said, and the Denver District Attorney's Office will determine final charges.
