DENVER (KDVR) — Authorities released the identity of a man who was shot by police after he behaved "in a threatening manner" while wielding a knife earlier this month.

Police say Eugene Reinersman, 49, of Fort Collins, was involved in an argument at a home on Eastdale Drive on June 15 at about 10:30 p.m. The victim reported that Reinersman was "behaving in a threatening manner."

Police found Reinersman outside the home, armed with a knife, and refusing to comply with commands. He remained uncooperative with police, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, even as officers used "less-lethal tools." That refers to weaponry like bean bag rounds or rubber bullets, used to slow or hinder a suspect so a situation can be resolved.

During the incident, a Fort Collins Police Services officer fired his handgun and hit Reinersman.

Reinersman was transported to a hospital and released. On June 22, he was booked into the Larimer County Jail, according to police. He is now facing charges of:

• Five counts of felony menacing
• Menacing
• Harassment - strike/shove/kick
• Resisting arrest

Reinersman was issued a $20,000 personal recognizance-cosign bond. The sheriff's office said that the district attorney requested a $50,000 cash bond.

The Eighth Judicial Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting, with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office leading the case.
