BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) -- Hundreds turned out in Central Park in Boulder Sunday for the annual Pride Fest celebration, just two weeks after a horrific terror attack shook the community.

Those in attendance say it was important to them that they show up and show they are not going anywhere.

July protest planned after high turnout for ‘No Kings Day’ in Denver

“I was here yesterday for 'No Kings,' and I'm here today for the LGBTQ community,” Pride Fest attendee Jane Ireland said.

Ireland says those in the LGTBQ+ community are here stay, standing on the shoulders of the generations that came before them, together.

“It's important that we have the ability to lead our own lives, to be ourselves, to be authentic, and to walk in a safe place as we live out our lives that way,” Ireland said.

A sentiment shared by the hundreds of attendees, adorned in bright colors and rainbow flags in the center of Boulder’s pride celebration.

"60 years ago, this would be like kind of unheard of or like underground or you know the fact that we're getting the most pressure from society in a very long time and yet we're still so open and proud and happy to be here, that's resilience," Kenna, who attended the event said.

Organizers say pride is about coming together, standing together, celebrating being themselves in a place where they can all feel like they belong.

“When I leave here today and when others leave here today, I hope they take with a full heart and some new friends,” CEO of Rocky Mountain Equality Mardi Moore said.

This all comes as Denver is preparing to host over half a million attendees at their pride celebration in just a few weeks, one of the largest in the county.
