Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayIDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (KDVR) — Located right off of Interstate 70 in Idaho Springs, you’ve probably driven by it a million times, “It’s a mill connected to a whole bunch of mines that produced ore from here to Central City. We have to explain it quite often actually," said Erin Huseman, mercantile manager Argo Gold Mill and Tunnel.
Construction began in 1893 on the Argo Gold Mill and Tunnel, which opened for business in 1913.
At the time, they were mining what they call the “big five": copper, lead, zinc, silver and of course, gold.
Today the Argo mill is silent. But back in the day before safety regulations, the sound of the machinery was deafening. A new employee would completely lose his hearing in just three days.
The end of the tour at the Argo Gold Mill and Tunnel left me with a comment and a question. First, I’m glad I never had to work here and second, is there still gold in them thar hills? Naw. There’s probably more gold in my teeth.
