DENVER (KDVR) -- Greeley police are investigating an incident Monday in which an officer "accidentally discharged his firearm" during an arrest.

Officers were in the 2000 block of Talon Parkway on Monday for an unspecified investigation, and a male suspect was taken into custody, police said in a Facebook post. The officer was assisting in the arrest when his gun went off, police said.

The officer and the suspect both suffered minor injuries from debris.

Police said they "take this matter very seriously" and are investigating.

"A thorough review will be conducted to address any issues identified to avoid incidents like this in the future," police said.

The police department did not say what kind of call the officer was responding to or release any details about the officer.
