DENVER (KDVR) -- Coloradans have the chance to see a Grammy Award-winning musician among several performances at a free jazz festival happening next weekend.

There are fewer opportunities to jump and jive to jazz music at festivals in Colorado this year, without the Five Points Jazz Festival and a shortened Juneteenth Music Festival.

But there is certainly plenty of swing and blues to go around for those looking for it.

To officially kick off the summer, one festival in Boulder County will have several groups bringing different instruments and styles of jazz for the public to feast their ears on at no cost.

The Niwot Jazz Festival will be held for the fourth year on Saturday, June 21, from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Square, with performances from soloists, groups and big bands, including Grammy Award-winning trumpet player Brian Lynch.

Here is the performance lineup:

  • 3:00-4:15: After Midnight, Swing Sextet with Clarinetist Roger Campbell
  • 4:45-6: East Coast Jazz Vocalist Angela Bingham
  • 6:15-7:30: Grammy Award Winning Trumpeter Brian Lynch with the Keith Waters Trio and Saxophonist Peter Sommer
  • 8:00-9:30: Salsa Dance Party with Quemando

Attendees can expect to hear jazz classics from artists like Benny Goodman, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, as well as traditional and contemporary Latin music and more.

The festival is free to attend. According to a press release from the festival director, the event typically draws 800-1,000 visitors and is supported by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association.

Those interested in helping out can fill out a volunteer form online. The festival is also seeking small donations to help subsidize the free festival, and donations can be made online.
