Officials across metro Atlanta and in other parts of the Southeast U.S. reported sightings of a "fireball" streaking across the sky Thursday afternoon.

According to WYFF TV in South Carolina, the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg says from the video they have seen it appears to be a meteorite.

The City of Roswell Fire Department, along with officials in Forsyth and Dawson counties in Georgia, confirmed receiving multiple eyewitness accounts, according to the 11 Alive TV station.

In Rockdale County, residents described hearing a loud boom and feeling their homes shake, 11 Alive reported.

There have also been media reports from Tennessee of the "fireball."
