Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado Department of Transportation said motorists should begin to expect more delays along the Interstate 70 Mountain Corridor, with more drivers heading to the mountain communities during the summer months.
Traffic data from Friday, June 21, through Sunday, June 23, 2024, shows there were "extensive" delays along the I-70 Mountain Corridor, due to Front Range residents trying to "beat the heat," according to CDOT.
This weekend, the agency said it expects similar traffic impacts due to music and food festivals "ramping up" throughout Colorado's mountain towns.
CDOT said motorists should be prepared for travel time from C-470 to Silverthorne to take more than two hours.
Looking ahead, the agency also noted that the Fourth of July weekend is "consistently" one of the heaviest travel weekends along the corridor, and, with the holiday landing on a Friday this year, CDOT said it anticipates significate delays starting Thursday, July 3.
The agency is encouraging motorists to also ensure their vehicle has been properly maintained before making the trek into the mountains, in the event of a closure or any extended delays.
Motorists are also encouraged to keep their vehicles stocked with water, snacks and a full gas tank, among other things.
