DENVER (KDVR) — From Rocky Ford melons to Pueblo green chilis, Coloradans are passionate about their local produce. And in the next couple of weeks, ears of locally grown sweet corn will start appearing at farm stands across Colorado.

Tuxedo Corn, the producer of Olathe Sweet Corn, has shared its complete schedule of when and where eager customers can get their fix. Locations are not only in Colorado — there are also opportunities to purchase the golden crop in New Mexico and Wyoming.

The producer said that the first harvest of the corn is expected to take place in mid to late July this year, with the harvest season to continue with shipping through mid-October.

The strain of corn is named for the city, which is located in the Uncompahgre Valley on Colorado's Western Slope. The region has a number of agricultural businesses, including numerous wineries. A media advisory from a press firm representing Tuxedo Corn noted that the valley's uniform weather, ample sunshine, low humidity and access to water help create conditions that "create sweeter and more flavorful fruits and vegetables."

Tuxedo Corn says that Olathe Sweet Corn is best when it's picked, husked and eaten in a short period of time, to ensure the high sugar content doesn't turn to starch. To help facilitate that, the company provides corn directly from its trucks at various locations.

The company notes that it uses parking lots of various businesses to bring the produce closer to customers, but said the businesses are not involved in sales operations and will not have answers, which should instead be directed to Tuxedo Corn at 970-323-6874.
