Diamonds displayGlobal purchases of imported diamonds cost a total US$68.2 billion in 2025.
Overall, the value of diamonds bought by all importing countries shrank by an average -43.2% since five years earlier in 2021 when diamond purchases totaled $120 billion.
Year over year, the dollar sum paid for imported diamonds dropped by -19.8% compared to the $85 billion starting from 2024.
Collectively, the top 5 buyers of imported diamonds are India, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, United States of America then Belgium. Added together, that cohort of major diamond imports purchased over three-quarters (75.8%) of internationally sold diamonds in 2025.
From a continental perspective, Asian countries spent the most on imported diamonds during 2025 with purchases amounting to $48.1 billion or 70.6% of the global total. In second place were importers located in Europe at 14.7% while another 12% of worldwide diamond imports went to North American countries.
Smaller percentages went to buyers in Africa (2.3%), Oceania (0.3%) led by Australia and New Zealand, and Latin America (0.1%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.
For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 7102 for non-mounted and unset diamonds.

Those countries that posted year-over-year declines in their imported diamonds purchases were led by: United States of America (down -51%), United Arab Emirates (down -30.2%), France (down -19.2%) and Botswana (down -18.2%).
