DENVER (KDVR) -- The Mile High City is once again being recognized as one of the best cities in the world in a newly released list.

The World's Best Cities report by branding companies IPSOS and Resonance Consultancy ranks the top 100 best cities in America that are "shaping tomorrow."

The report highlights forward-moving cities that continue to evolve amid changing economic conditions and even local weather climates.

It looked at cities with populations over 500,000 and analyzed data points for things like healthcare, housing affordability, landmarks and attractions, walkability, green space, activities, culture, business and more.

Top 10 cities

  1. New York
  2. Los Angeles
  3. Chicago
  4. San Francisco
  5. Seattle
  6. Miami
  7. Boston
  8. Washington, D.C.
  9. Las Vegas
  10. San Diego

Denver: No. 16

Denver ranked at No. 16 overall, coming in the three main categories at No. 12 for livability, 18 for locability and 13 for prosperity. The city also saw notable rankings for labor force participation at No. 2 and for biking at No. 4.

"Lifestyle matters, and The Mile High City is selling it to a new mobile, ascendant investment class," the World's Best Cities website reads.

According to the report, the city's population is just over three million, but is expected to jump to 3.6 million by 2030 thanks to a strong labor force and an expected 1.2% job bump this year. And, the Denver International Airport is preparing to accommodate over 100 million flyers each year by 2030, a jump from the record-breaking 82.3 million in 2024.

Development projects will attract more new residents and tourists to Denver. The study cited the River Mile development, which plans to transform a mile of space around the South Platte River into a walkable neighborhood that combines nature with city life. It also noted that the city is working to convert vacant business buildings into affordable apartments, approving $29 million in bonds to transform a vacant Tech Center building into 143 apartments.

The report highlighted a new, unique landmark in the city — the Populus Hotel — which is the first carbon-positive hotel in the country and was named one of the world's greatest places by Time magazine.

The city is also attracting business, the report said, with Austria-based VertiGIS planting its headquarters in downtown Denver and Costco set to debut two metro stores this summer.

Colorado Springs: No. 74

Colorado Springs also ranked on the list at No. 74 overall, and came in at No. 69 for livability, 50 for livability and 85 for prosperity. The city had notably high rankings for air quality at No. 10, attractions at No. 15, nature and parks at No. 29 and shopping spots at No. 33.

The report describes Colorado Springs as an "outdoorsy haven," with the 14,000-foot Pikes Peak making a scenic backdrop for the growing urban area.

The study also noted that companies are establishing roots in Colorado Springs, contributing to a strong economy and job market fueled by military and defense contractors.
