DENVER (KDVR) — Wednesday could go down in Denver history books as temperatures near 100 degrees for the first time this season.

Wednesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as temperatures are expected to hit 100 degrees in several parts of Colorado. If temperatures rise to triple digits in Denver, it could be one of the hottest July 9s in the city's history.

Forecast on July 9, 2025 (KDVR)

The National Weather Service recorded the hottest July 9 in history in 2013 and 2022 when it hit exactly 100 degrees in Denver. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said downtown Denver will likely match that record and hit 100 degrees, but it may not be official.

The city's temperature is recorded at the Denver International Airport, which is often cooler in the plains. On Wednesday, Michels said the temperature will likely hit 99 degrees at DIA, but Denver will be much warmer because of urban heating, where concrete in buildings and cement hold the heat.

If it does reach 100 degrees at the airport, it will be one of the hottest days in history.

While it will likely hit 100 degrees in several parts of the state for the first time this year, triple digits aren't all that common in Colorado. Denver has gone over a year without hitting triple digits before.

The city hit 100 degrees in 2022, but it didn’t see 100 degrees in 2023 and went nearly 700 days before it saw another 100-degree day in 2024. While triple digits vary year by year, last summer, Denver saw six 100-degree days, the third most in Denver’s history.

On Wednesday, it will likely hit 100 degrees. There's a heat advisory from 10 a.m. through 9 p.m. and an air quality alert until 4 p.m. with high levels of ozone at ground level.
