DENVER (KDVR) — Some Denver bars are trying to build a "strong connection" with the community by hosting "Love Island USA" watch parties.

"Love Island USA," a dating reality show, is in the midst of season 7, airing episodes on the streaming app, Peacock.

After pulling some Denver bar owners "for a chat," FOX31 got the insights on how these events came to be.

"All of these people were going to these group meetups to watch 'Love Island.' Which, funny enough, I've never seen before...but now I've binged 10 episodes," said Jessica Eliassen, co-owner of Duets Tap and Grill. "It's so good. Like, how did I not know about that?"

Eliassen has collaborated with Colorado Babe Tribe, a Denver women's group, to host some of these watch parties.

Tiara Smith, the founder of the Colorado Babe Tribe, hosts multiple events each month for women in the Denver metro area. She promotes these through the group's social media pages and said the initial idea of the watch parties was brought to her, which ultimately led to the collaboration with Duets.

"People have asked us, can their boyfriends or their husbands come," Smith said. "We have said 'absolutely' because some of the boys want to be bombshells too."

Both Eliassen and Smith said that the watch parties themselves have had great turnout thus far, noting that the community is a primary focus for these events.

"The feedback that we got was that everybody just really loved the sense of community, loved the sense of having other women around them that were excited and happy to just interact with," Eliassen said. "We actually had about 10 people who talked to me personally that were new to the Denver area that don't have friends in the area. They all left with at least one friend."

Another business hosting "Love Island" watch parties is The Olive Tiger.

"We weren't expecting it to be as big as it was, but we are so grateful and happy that it is because at the end of the day the Olive Tiger really prides itself on being a safe space for the community but women in particular," Amanda Lawlor, the owner of The Olive Tiger, said. "But having a place that people can come together in a judgment-free space and just unwind from their day is really what we want to facilitate. "

The idea behind the watch parties at The Olive Tiger was to bring Denver "Love Island" fans together and promote the business.

“Everyone that comes in, they're like 'this is like our Friday night football,'” said Shelby Harrington, an employee of The Olive Tiger.

"Love Island USA" airs six days a week, excluding Wednesday, but Duets Tap and Grill and The Olive Tiger host the watch parties on particular days, which are posted on their social media pages.
