Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Gov. Jared Polis released a new dashboard on Tuesday that tracks federal funding cuts and legal battles impacting state programs.
As of Tuesday night, the dashboard said that the state has successfully defended over $282 million in reinstated federal funds but faces another $56 million in funds that are at risk and another $76.26 million that have been terminated or not renewed by the Trump administration.
Colorado's third and fourth congressional districts, located in southern Colorado, are facing the biggest enacted and proposed cuts: $25.7 million and $21.8 million, respectively.
“The Trump administration is trying to rip away local and state funding that supports cybersecurity and public safety, helps Coloradans access or charge low-cost electric vehicles, helps people access food and more," said Polis in a release on Tuesday. "This is federal funding that has already been allocated to states by Congress, and now the administration is working to take it away. We are doing everything in our power to protect this funding for Coloradans and local governments, including pursuing legal action when necessary. This dashboard will help increase transparency and accountability.”
The governor said the dashboard is part of his efforts to ensure state residents receive a fair share of the taxes paid to the federal government. The governor's office pointed to a Rockefeller study that found for every $1 that Coloradans pay in federal taxes, the state only receives $0.90 back in federal investments.
The data presented on the dashboard includes the verified cuts to state programs, but the reductions do not include fund freezes, cuts or claw backs for higher education institutions, as well as local, nonprofit and community partners in Colorado.
"The dashboard also includes the impact the proposed current reconciliation bill would have on Colorado’s budget," the governor's office explained in a release. "Specifically, how this legislation would decimate programs like Medicaid, SNAP, renewable energy investments and more, hurting Coloradans and these services that people rely on."
The dashboard also includes a timeline showing the state's response to federal funding cuts, including the plethora of lawsuits joined or led by Colorado to protect allocated federal funds.
