Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — Thousands spent the Fourth of July enjoying all that Denver has to offer, including the newly renovated 16th Street — now mostly open after a $180 million overhaul.
Visitors and locals alike took to the pedestrian promenade Thursday afternoon, soaking in the sunshine, sidewalk cafes, and brand-new landscaping as part of the city’s effort to make the area more walkable and inviting.
“America is great,” said one visiting family from overseas, calling the mall a perfect starting point for their U.S. travels.
The holiday marked one of the first major events since construction wrapped up — and many downtown residents said the improvements are paying off.
“I moved down here in 2022 when they started, so it’s great to see. They put in that little park, redid the sidewalks, and I see people out. It’s nice,” one man said.
Others said they were impressed by the cleanliness and calm feel of the upgraded space.
“I think it’s absolutely gorgeous. I love that the city is so clean, so many trees, it’s so peaceful,” one woman said. “I’m so happy I finally made it here.”
As night fell, many planned to watch fireworks from neighborhood rooftops or catch the show following the Rockies–White Sox game at Coors Field.
“We’ve got great seats, but you can go on the field after the game to watch the fireworks,” one couple said.
