Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — Crews put out multiple fire outbreaks that shut down part of Interstate 70 on Monday morning.
Just before 10 a.m., the Eagle County Sheriff's Office said westbound I-70 near Gypsum mile marker 139 was shut down as emergency crews worked to put out multiple spot fires. The sheriff's office said there were several isolated fires that produced heavy smoke.
COtrip said at the time that it was closed due to "fire activity." Waze, a navigation app, reported that traffic was at a standstill around 10 a.m. By 10:45 a.m., the sheriff's office said all fires were safely put out, and the roadway was reopened.
"We’re so grateful to all the emergency crews and partner agencies who responded quickly and worked together to keep our community safe. Thank you for everything you do," said the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office is now reminding people that it's under stage one fire restrictions, and people should check vehicles for dragging chains, avoid parking on grass and never leave a campfire unattended to prevent wildfires.
