Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — A Girl Scout from Colorado was awarded a national scholarship, according to a press release from the Girl Scouts of Colorado.
18-year-old Kanshita Dam, a Girl Scout Ambassador, received the GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship due to her "extraordinary leadership and community connection."
Dam created a Gold Award project called "Global Garments for Good."
The project's purpose was to establish a sustainable system for donating ethnic clothing from the United States to communities in need in India. Gently used clothes were used to support people working to rise out of poverty.
Girl Scouts Colorado said that the project helped build strong relationships with local temples and cultural organizations.
One of the temples in Denver and the Milonee Association even committed to hosting regular donation drives that will last beyond Dam's time with the Girl Scouts. Three shipments have been sent in six months.
Dam's work has earned her recognition from other organizations, including:
- Runner-up for the Girl Scouts of Colorado's Stephanie A. Foote Leadership Prize
- 2025 Future Outstanding Woman in Business by the Denver Business Journal
While she has found great success in Colorado, Dam sees her next steps in California, where she will pursue biophysics on a premedical track at the University of Southern California.
She is a graduate of Kent Denver High School, where she served as co-captain of the varsity swim team, in addition to her participation with the Girl Scouts of Colorado.
Dam received a $5,000 scholarship from the Gold Award Scholarships.
