BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. Energy cooperation was discussed between Azerbaijan and China.

This was stated in a post published by Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, on his X account.

"At the meeting with Lu Mei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Azerbaijan, we discussed energy cooperation between the two countries.

We exchanged views on the participation of Chinese companies in Azerbaijan's domestic and international initiatives, including projects in the field of green energy", the post noted.

Energy is another major area of Azerbaijan-China cooperation. Collaboration in the sector now extends beyond investment projects and has become one of the pillars of Azerbaijan's sustainable development strategy.

Azerbaijan-China energy ties have entered a green transition phase, aligning with Azerbaijan's 2030 and 2050 climate goals as well as China's global strategy for exporting green technologies.

Projects such as the Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant and the Gobustan Solar Power Plant demonstrate that Chinese companies are acting not only as contractors but also as technology providers and financing partners.

Another important area of cooperation is the localization of industrial production and green energy technologies. In this regard, the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) is emerging as a new platform for industrial partnership between the two countries.

Sunsync, the first Chinese company officially registered in the zone, is preparing to establish a solar panel manufacturing facility there.

In an interview with Trend, Valeh Alasgarov, chairman of the board of the Authorized Body of the Alat Free Economic Zone, said the company plans to bring advanced technologies to Azerbaijan during the first phase of the project and build a solar panel production facility on a 23-hectare site within the AFEZ.

According to him, most of the output will be exported, with the goal of serving international markets in addition to domestic demand.

"From day one, the goal has been to reach global markets, not just Azerbaijan. We recommend that investors operating in the Alat Free Economic Zone use solar panels manufactured here on the rooftops of their facilities. At the same time, the company will be able to participate in all relevant tenders held in Azerbaijan," Alasgarov said.

He noted that once Sunsync begins production, companies building solar power plants in Azerbaijan will be able to source panels domestically, reducing both logistics costs and overall project expenses.

"We have also offered the company land in the Alat Free Economic Zone to build a solar power plant. This could create an opportunity for green electricity generated by a plant built with locally manufactured panels to be supplied to businesses operating within the AFEZ," he said.
