During question period in the House of Commons on Wednesday, Conservatives argued that a new Liberal policy beginning on Nov. 3 does no favours to Canadian workers, especially those who lost their job last month. “The liberals are siding with corporations and institutions who don't want to put in the work to hire and train Canadians. They are doing this after 68,000 Canadians lost their jobs last month. Can the immigration minister tell those 68,000 people why their government decided they don't even deserve to get a first look?” Conservative MP Grant Jackson asked. Liberal MP and Parliamentary Secretary Leslie Church argued the assertions saying, “When they take aim at Canada's immigration system and in ways that they know are incorrect, they know that the temporary foreign worker program has its uses down 50 per cent in the last year and makes up less than 1 per cent of our workforce.” She added, “But the changes that this government introduced are not about that. They are about highly skilled top wage earners coming into this country in fields where we have an immediate workforce need.
