Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) -- With an overwhelming majority, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar has been voted the recipient of the 2024-25 James Norris Memorial Trophy.
The Norris Trophy is awarded to the "defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-around ability in the position" and voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association, according to the National Hockey League's announcement. Makar took 176 of the 191 first-place votes.
Makar has been a finalist for the Norris Trophy in all of the last five seasons and won the award in 2021-22, and he is now just the sixth player in NHL history to capture multiple trophies before turning 27 years old, according to the NHL. Makar was also the first Avalanche player to win the award.
The Calgary, Canada, native registered 92 points in 80 games during the 2024-25 regular season and marked several career milestones last season, beginning with his 100th career NHL goal. He also was the third-fastest defender in history to reach 400 career points and also 500 combined regular-season/playoff points.
