Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — A construction sign in Denver was drawing attention on Sunday due to the message it was displaying.
The sign is a large, traffic control sign located near the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Exposition Way, near Interstate 25 and near RTD's I-25 and Broadway light rail station. It looks like it could be related to ongoing road construction in Denver.
However, the Colorado Department of Transportation told FOX31 that it does not control that sign, and has "no way of knowing what's going on with someone else's signs."
The spokesperson confirmed that none of CDOT's overhead signs installed on interstates and highways were displaying that message.
The message read "Bring the heat; (expletive) ICE."
"People will periodically break into the portable signs that construction contractors use on projects," CDOT told FOX31.
FOX31's Nate Belt was at the location as of about 4:45 p.m., and said that a CDOT Incident Response Team had moved the sign so it was no longer facing the roadway.
ICE, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has been drawing ire across the U.S. due to its immigration enforcement efforts. In LA, the enforcement efforts were labeled as raids targeting immigrants who were at work.
Denver has been the site of several anti-ICE protests, including some this week that drew thousands of marchers. More protests aimed at the current administration and against immigration raids are planned to come.
FOX31 has reached out to the sign's manufacturer and the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure for clarification on the sign, asking if they are aware of who owns the sign. As information is gathered, this story will be updated.
