Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado State Patrol said that eastbound Interstate 70 was closed in Elbert County on Wednesday afternoon for a deadly crash.
According to the agency, a Subaru Forester rear-ended a semitrailer at about 2:31 p.m. CSP said preliminary information showed that there were five people in the Subaru, and three of the occupants, including two children, were killed in the crash. CSP initially reported there were four deaths in the crash, but later corrected the information.
The driver of the Subaru was transported to a local area hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The crash took place about 13 miles west of Limon at milepost 348. I-70 eastbound was closed between Exit 340: I-70 Business West and Exit 348: Cedar Point.
CSP told motorists to avoid the area, as it is unknown when the road will reopen. The agency advised motorists to detour at Exit 316 in Byers, then take Highway 36 east to Highway 71 into Limon.
